10 free days as little as £1 for anyone on Universal Credit this weekend

CHEAP days are up for grabs this bank holiday weekend for claimants of Universal Credit and other benefits, for as little as £1.

This is the perfect opportunity to spend some fun days out with the family as there are cheap activities available across the country.

We’ve rounded up the best deals to help you plan your for a long weekend that won’t break the bank.

London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo – tickets from £3

Families can purchase tickets from a starting price of £3, and children under 3 can go for free without needing to book.

This is for those currently receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.

Tickets should be booked online in advance of visit, just bring proof of eligibility when you get to the admission gate.

The zoo does ask visitors to consider adding a voluntary donation of £1 on tickets if they can afford.

Horniman Museum – free entry

The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a museum that specialises in anthropology, natural history and musical instruments in London’s south-east.

There is also an iconic aquarium, butterfly house, robot zoo and a collection of 350,000 objects.

There is free entry into the museum, and the Aquarium, Butterfly House and The Robot Zoo have ticket prices starting from £1.

These tickets are available for those on Universal Credit or other benefits, just needing proof of eligibility.

Kew Gardens – £1 entry

Enjoy 300 acres of gardens, glasshouses and exhibitions at London’s Kew Gardens for just £1.


Anyone receiving Universal Credit, PIP, Disability Living Allowance, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit qualifies or other benefits are eligible

Benefit holders can purchase up to four extra guest tickets, above the age of 4.

Tower of London – £1 entry

A day visit to the Tower of London can be claimed for just £1 for recipients of benefits like Universal Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance or Pension Credit.

£1 tickets can be claimed for up to six people per household, with only one person need to show their supporting documents.

They can be reserved through online booking only, and children under 5 do not need a ticket.

This is a great attraction to find out about the over a thousand year history of the iconic castle, and get close to the Crown Jewels.

Roald Dahl Museum – £1 entry

The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, located in the village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, showcasing the iconic stories of great children’s short story writer.

The museum has Universal Credit tickets for just £1, on offer for up to six people per household.

Children under 5 go in for free, but tickets must be booked in advanced and with be with an adult at all times.

York Castle Museum – free entry

Dive into hundreds of years of British history for free at York Castle Museum.

Universal Credit claimants can get completely free entry at the door, saving up to £17 per adult.

Kids under five also go free, making this a great day out for families on a budget.

London Transport Museum – £1 unlimited annual access

If you’re on Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Tax Credits, you can get unlimited daytime entry to the London Transport Museum for the whole year at just £1.

That’s less than the price of a bus ride.

Universal Credit and Pension Credit Annual Passes are sold on an individual basis, and each named pass holder must provide individual proof of receipt.

There is also free entry entitlement for those 17 and under, TfL staff, and carers or companions.

Life Science Centre – £3 tickets

Over the summer, Newcastle’s Life Science Centre has introduced a new £3 Universal Credit ticket.

Available from July until Sunday, August 31, anyone on Universal Credit can purchase tickets for themselves and up to five others at the reduced price of £3.

You can enjoy a full day of science-fuelled activities, from immersive exhibitions to live science shows, hands-on experiments and creative making activities at the centre.

A highlight this summer is said to be their new 360 degree immersive dome show exploring the question of “is there life beyond Earth?”.

Edinburgh Zoo – tickets from £7

Heading to Scotland for the weekend?

Edinburgh Zoo is offering reduced price tickets from £7 for those on Universal Credit and other means-tested benefits.

Tickets are available for up to six people per household, and under 3s can go in for free.

Book in advance online and bring proof of eligibility on the day.

Chatsworth House – tickets from £1

There is reduced pricing for Universal Credit holders to access the house, garden, farmyard and adventure playground in the Derbyshire Dales.

Adults can go in for £3, and children aged between three to 16 can go in for £1.

Universal Credit ticket holders can also benefit from 25% off food and drink purchases during their visit.

These tickets, however, are available to book on a first come first served basis and may sell out on busy days.
