The current series of Ben’s Channel 5 series, which was confirmed last September, hit screens earlier this month and kicked off with the inspirational tale of a New York model who gave up life in the Big Apple to move to Botswana.
The episodes in general document a variety of people who have chosen to leave the rat race and instead live off grid.
On today’s ITV daytime programme, he told of one of the most emotional episodes to date – set to air on Channel 5 tonight – which centres on a rice-grower in Japan.
Ben, 51, told how many of the people featured on his series “find it difficult to escape their inner demons” while also missing the “sociability” aspect of more traditional life.
He said: “When reality hits and they find themselves isolated, many people actually find that really, really challenging and difficult.
“Particularly if they have children.”
He then let slip the future of the show which he has fronted since it launched in 2013.
Ben continued: “A lot of the people I’ve met … I’m already filming a new series, I’ve just filmed one in Montana.
“Extraordinary. Really complicated story.
“I ended up in hospital – but that’s a whole other thing.”
He added: “I think people will be fascinated to see the dynamic when there’s a family involved with young children in such a remote place.”
OFF SCREEN STRUGGLE
The fresh series news comes after Ben revealed how he had a ‘secret breakdown’ last year causing him to burn out.
In an emotional update to fans, he explained: “A year ago I suffered a mental health wobble.
“An episode. A storm. A blip.”
