Chelsea vs Fulham preview

Chelsea will be eyeing back-to-back wins when they host London rivals Fulham in Saturday’s lunchtime showdown at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are flying high after their 5-1 hammering of West Ham, and are odds-on at 1/2 to bag another three points.

And it’s not hard to see why.

Enzo Maresca’s men have now won eight of their last nine in all competitions, including friendlies, and are posting some impressive numbers.

Chelsea rank in the top three for goals scored, total shots, efforts inside the box, big chances created and attempts from set plays. They’re also averaging a shot every 6.2 minutes under Maresca.

Granted, those stats come with a pinch of salt after West Ham’s total collapse last weekend – but there’s plenty more reason for optimism in west London.

Chelsea have lost just 8.3% of their Premier League meetings with Fulham (3 in 36 games) – the joint-lowest loss rate between two clubs with 20+ top-flight clashes.

And while Fulham won this exact fixture 2-1 last season, that result ended a 21-game winless run away to Chelsea in all competitions – and they’ve never won back-to-back games at Stamford Bridge in their history.

And let’s not forget, Chelsea have enjoyed the luxury of a full seven days off while Fulham played Bristol City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

As for the visitors, “solid” probably sums up Fulham’s start to the season.

Marco Silva’s men have picked up two points from two games – snatching a late equaliser at Brighton before holding Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Transfer business has been slow, with backup keeper Benjamin Lecomte the only arrival so far. But with the window closing on Monday, the Cottagers are still hoping to get deals over the line.

Even so, the core of Silva’s squad remains intact – and early signs are promising. Fulham have looked steady at both ends of the pitch, posting an xG of 2.52 and an xGC from open play of just 1.1 – the third-best defensive figure in the league so far.

Chelsea vs Fulham preview betting tips and predictions

Goals?

Don’t bank on a goal fest when west London rivals Chelsea and Fulham square off at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Both sides have posted rock-solid defensive numbers in their opening two games – Fulham’s xGC from open play sits at just 1.1, while Chelsea lead the league with a stingy 0.6 xGC.

And history backs up the trend. This fixture hasn’t seen over 3.5 goals in any of the last 11 meetings, with seven of those producing two goals or fewer.

Goal or Assist

We’re backing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández to score or assist in Saturday’s clash with Fulham – available at 9/5 with William Hill.

The Argentine midfielder bagged a goal in the 5-1 thrashing of West Ham and looks a major threat again this weekend.

It’s no fluke either. Only Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer have had more shots in the Premier League so far, and Enzo leads the way at Chelsea for both big chances and xG.

He’s also proving to be a creative force. Only Pedro Neto has received more passes in the final third this season, and 23 assists in 117 appearances for the Blues is nothing to sniff at. He also assisted the last time these sides met.
