Discussions by the pair, of South London, were transcribed from Mandarin into English at the high-security London nick.

Both targeted women in the capital’s Chinese student community, drugging their victims before filming themselves raping them.

Xu, who came to the UK in 2013, faced 13 charges when remanded in custody in June.

The recruitment worker admitted 24 in court on Friday when faced with unassailable evidence and faces sentence in November.

Police found more than 30,000 images of women on electronic devices at his flat.

He is feared to have abused hundreds more.

Meanwhile, PhD student Zou, son of a Chinese Communist Party official, was jailed for 24 years in June for raping ten women.

Zou, who hoarded personal items from his victims, is suspected of preying on 60 more.

A source said: “Xu was remanded in custody to Belmarsh, where Zou was already held, and they were put in the same bugged cell where their conversations were monitored.

“The aim of the operation was to find intelligence on the identities of their victims and what happened to them afterwards.”

Despite the similarity of their crimes, there is no evidence the men knew one another.

The Met declined to discuss the bugging operation.
