Maureen, 79, said “I do” to David Turner, also 79, on September 7.

But their nuptials were interrupted by the government’s emergency alert, which sounded on phones up and down the country at 3pm on Sunday.

Speaking on This Morning on Monday, Gyles Brandreth, a close pal of Maureen, said to hosts Ben and Tess that he heard the government alert “under quite exciting circumstances”.

He explained how on Sunday, he attended the wedding of his friend Maureen.

Gyles then shared a photograph from the moment the emergency alert was sounded on Sunday at 3pm.

In the snap, Maureen looked visibly stunned with her mouth wide open.

He then explained: “What happened was this, at 2:30 the rabbi said, ‘I have written to the Prime Minister, telling him that there’s going to be this exciting wedding, do you have a message?

“And the Prime Minister replied, I’m not able to be here but I’ve arranged for sirens to be sound all over the country’.”

Maureen was seen in the photo with a cream fascinator atop her head, as her dashing groom stood beside her.

With her mouth wide open, everyone looked stunned yet joyous as they laughed along.

Gyles explained how everyone’s phones were buzzing, and he quickly snapped the photo of Maureen as the buzzing was heard.

Just last week, Gyles revealed the wedding was not far away.

Speaking on This Morning last Tuesday, Gyles said at the time: “Dame Maureen Lipman, this Sunday I will be going to her wedding. She’s getting married.”

He went on to add: “She’s getting married in the morning! I think it’s actually the afternoon.

“I’ll be there. Isn’t it fantastic? To get married in your 80th year is fantastic.”

Maureen’s recent relationship with her now-husband is not the only love story she has been blessed with in her life.

Dame Maureen previously spoke about losing her beloved later partner, Jack, whom she married in 1974.

Jack died at the age of 72 in 2004, with his cause of death being ruled as multiple myeloma, a form of cancer.

She previously told The People: “I have had a wonderful life, I have had my losses, of course.

“I lost my husband far too young to myeloma.”

The actress went on to say: “I lost my partner in January and what gets me through is what gets the Queen through, work.

“I don’t know what to do if I am not working, I don’t know what to be if I am not working.”

Four years after losing her husband, Maureen found love once again with Guido Castro, whom she remained with for 13 years until his death.

Guido died in 2021 after contracting coronavirus which “weakened him terribly”.
