Earlier this week, Mack figured out that John had killed Nate Robinson and was finally onto the killer.

But John figured out Mack knew, and was determined to do whatever he could to keep his secret under wraps.

He told Mack he would not be going home, before chasing him through the woods with a crossbow in hand.

Shooting him through the chest, Mack could later be seen cowering underneath John with an arrow through his chest.

The serial killer then prepared to smack him with a massive rock before the screen went black.

But despite Mack’s body then seemingly seen in the back of John’s van, covered by a blanket – fans think he isn’t dead.

One fan on Reddit speculated that Mack might actually be alive.

They even predicted when his comeback might take place – and it’s not too far away either.

“Just to remind everyone of one of soaplands most enduring tropes…

“No body, no murder/death.

“Sure we saw something bleeding under the rug, but we didn’t exactly see who it was.

“Looking forward to the return of the Mack at Xmas,” the original poster shared on Reddit.

One person replied: “I hope so… It’d suck if he’s really dead, before he ever managed to patch things up with Charity.”

A second added: “Thank you for giving me a little bit of hope!!

“I really don’t want this to be the end for Mack.”

While a third joked: “Maybe Mick Carter will wash up in Emmerdale and Mack will end up in EastEnders for a Mack and Zack bromance.”

But a fourth person didn’t want to get their hopes up.

“As much as I am aware of the trope, and want Mack to live, I am assuming he didn’t make it until I see otherwise,” they penned.

The fan went on to add: “It saves on the disappointment later, like how there was constant speculation on whether or not Nate was dead for months.

“I don’t want to get my hopes up.”

Do you think Mackenzie might be alive? Or do you think John definitely killed him?

Emmerdale airs weeknightly on ITV at 7:30, and is available to stream on ITVX.
