And he managed to hold on to victory despite being given a standing count by the referee in the fourth and final round.
Essex – coached by his uncle Tony Sims, trainer to the likes of Conor Benn and Anthony Joshua – got off to a quick start.
He pumped out his jab and fired in right hands over the top but prankster Numeiro matched his efforts.
A scrappy second round saw both trade wild shots.
But it was in round three that Essex drew first blood after a right hand caused a standing count.
The 2013 I’m A Celeb contestant went for the finish and landed another huge right hand but Numeiro desperately held on.
Numeiro actually fired back to end the round on top as Essex was forced to cover up himself – barely finding the energy to do so.
In the fourth and final round, a right hand from Numeiro forced Essex on the back foot with the referee scoring another standing count.
