A Martin Odegaard goal also helped Norway into a 5-0 half-time lead, with Haaland adding two more after the break.
In doing so he became the first player to score five times in a World Cup qualifier since Austrian Hans Krankl in 1977.
He is set to line up against Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday.
Haaland boasts an incredible record against his neighbours, scoring six goals in eight games against the Red Devils.
He also appears to have put his fitness concerns to one side after a bus door slammed into his face earlier this week.
Witnesses claim Haaland shouted “f**k” as he recoiled in pain during the freak accident.
The City star required three stitches and a trip to the dentist after suffering cuts to his lip and chin.
Despite the injury, United fans are daunted about the prospect of facing Haaland this weekend.
