EUROPE’S best-selling car has been reinvented for its next generation, combining a bold new design with cutting-edge features.
The Renault Clio, a staple of UK roads for the past 35 years, is gearing up for its sixth generation after making its debut at the 2025 Munich Motor Show.
Since its launch in 1990, over 1.3 million Clios have been sold in the UK alone and it remains a market leader – having been officially crowned Europe’s best-selling car of 2025 by Renault.
Over the years, the Clio has cemented its legacy with multiple awards, including European Car of the Year titles in 1991 and 2006.
Looking ahead, the sixth-gen model, set to arrive in the UK in 2027, will offer two powertrain options – hybrid, with a 160hp E-Tech engine with record-low CO₂ emissions and 72mpg fuel efficiency, and petrol, boasting 115hp from a 1.2-litre turbo engine with a manual gearbox.
Currently, UK Clio sales are split 40% petrol and 60% hybrid, which highlights the ever-growing demand for hybrid technology.
While pricing has yet to be confirmed, it’s believed it won’t differ too greatly to its current price – with UK trim levels of Evolution, Techno and Esprit Alpine all expected to be continued.
MAGNIFIQUE!
Inspired by the Embleme concept car – seen back in 2024 – the new Clio’s exterior features sculpted, “sensual” lines, according to Renault, along with a bold LED signature and an almost coupe-like roofline.
As with many new releases, the dimensions have grown slightly, further enhancing its sporty stance, say Renault.
At the front, an eye-catching grille with a diamond gradient is paired with striking LED headlights, while fluid curves and sharp tension lines along the body add to its sleek, dynamic silhouette.
The rear features integrated door handles, a sloping rear window and sporty taillights, complemented by black wheel arches, 18-inch rims and a widened track.
Seven colour choices will be available; new Rouge Absolu and Vert Absolu, plus Glacier White, Rafale Grey, Schiste Grey, Starry Black and Iron Blue.
Inside, the dashboard introduces new materials and features ambient LED lighting with a choice of 48 colour variations – echoed by a transparent illuminated element in the door panels.
A 10.1” screen setup includes the central screen angled toward the driver, with Google tech and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay included.
Curiously, it will adopt a compact steering wheel – borrowed from higher-end models – which reduces the number of steering turns from lock to lock, improving agility.
It’s also remarkably spacious inside, comfortably able to seat five while also offering more storage.
Adam Wood, Managing Director at Renault UK, said: “We are delighted that the success story of the iconic Renault Clio will continue.
“A new generation of Clio allows us to maintain our dual strategy of offering bespoke EV and ICE vehicles into the next decade, in a segment of the market that Renault has always been famous for.”
Renault is one of the main players in the UK car market, having recently boosted their ranks with the arrival of the Renault 5.
