Brand new cake inspired by Party Rings
The celebration cake is inspired by the iconic Party Rings biscuit.
The beloved confectionery brand told The Grocer that the cake will offer “a fun, shareable option for birthdays, family gatherings, and other special occasions.”
The sponge is topped with a colourful purple icing that mimics the original party ring design.
The irresistible new product is already available in Tesco and will be rolled out in Asda later this month, and Sainsbury’s on October 8.
It will retail for £14 and serves up to ten people.
Marketing director expresses excitement over launch
David Hebson, trade marketing director at Fox’s Burton‘s Companies, told The Grocer: “The Party Rings brand has always stood for colour, fun and bringing people together.
“This launch is a natural extension of that, delivering what shoppers want while giving retailers a genuine point of difference in their fixtures.”
How much does a birthday cake cost?
The cost of a birthday cake can vary massively depending on where you get it from and how elaborate it is.
Basic sponge or character birthday cakes from supermarkets tend to cost between £10 and £20, while large or themed supermarket cakes often vary between £20 and £35.
Meanwhile, a small, personalised custom cake from a bakery and/or professional cake decorator can set people back £40 to £60.
Medium personalised cakes are often £70 to £100, while large, tiered cakes, can be anywhere from £100 to £300, depending on detail, flavours and toppers.
Brand makes first change in 42-year history
This comes after The Sun reported on Fox’s major change to the Party Ring biscuit for the first time in its 42-year history.
Earlier this year, the confectionery company revealed it would be releasing a new shape of the beloved biscuit.
Called Under the Sea Minis and featuring “fun, fish shapes” instead of the classic ring, the product launched exclusively in Asda stores.
Party Rings owner, Fox’s Burton Companies (FBC), told The Grocer “considerable investment into new kit” was required in the first of a pipeline of shaped biscuit innovations for the brand.
The introduction of new shapes of the Party Rings have been labelled an “exciting milestone” for the brand, said head of category insight at FBC Robin Norton.
The hope was to engage and excite existing customers, as well as bring in new consumers of the Party Rings products.
New flavour of cult favourite biscuit
Fox’s isn’t the only brand releasing new versions of its cult favourite biscuits.
McVitie’s also lauched an exotic new Jaffa Cake flavour last month, which sent shoppers into a frenzy.
Eagle-eyed shoppers were quick to spot the Yuzu Lemon flavoured Jaffa Cakes on store shelves.
Looking freshly stocked, the image was captioned: “OMG New In tesco Jaffa cakes Lemon flavour!!”
The post attracted a significant number of responses, shares and comments from other users.
Yuzu was once the “hidden gem of Japanese cuisine”, and is a fruit that has exploded in popularity in recent years.
McVitie’s have claimed the new flavour is a “must-try for foodies, trendsetters and flavour chasers alike.”
