Goodwood races hit by delays after police called to ‘very bad crash’ with ambulance stranded

GOODWOOD races has been hit by a huge delay before the action has even begun – owing to a ‘very bad’ car crash.

The first contest on the seven-race card is due off at 1.48pm but will be pushed back because the ambulance designated for the track is stuck in traffic.

The A27 road has been closed due to a ‘serious collision’, according to a statement from National Highways.

Rain has hammered the track and no doubt made driving conditions treacherous, with the going changed to heavy.

A post from Goodwood racecourse on X read: “Racing at Goodwood Racecourse is delayed following an accident on the A27 which has caused the road to be closed and has prevented the horse ambulance from being able to arrive on time.

“We will keep you updated and aim to commence racing as soon as possible.”
