The League Two side produced a stunning first-half display as they romped into a two-goal lead.

Charles Vernam netted the opening goal in the 22nd minute before Tyrell Warren doubled the lead eight minutes later.

This was despite their pre-match routine being completely disturbed by the Red Devils.

The Grimsby players were forced onto a bus in order to reach Blundell Park before the game.

This is because there was no space in their normal car park due to the number of people who arrived with United.

SunSport exclusively captured the moment the Mariners arrived on the bus.

The bus pulled in outside of the stadium, and the players disembarked before the match.

Grimsby Town‘s victory over United has proven to be one of the biggest giant killings in recent history.

Benjamin Sesko arrived at Old Trafford this summer in a £74MILLION transfer from RB Leipzig.

The transfer fee is the equivalent of THIRTEEN YEARS of Grimsby’s turnover.

The victory was even sweeter for goalscorer Warren, who was once part of the United academy.

He had spent his youth on the books of the six-time League Cup winners, playing alongside Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay.

However, he was released in 2019 and has rebuilt his career in the English Football League.

One Grimsby player admitted he was half annoyed at the win as he was a United supporter.

Goalkeeper Christy Pym saved a penalty from Matheus Cunha and made some important stops during the 90minutes of action.

But when he was interviewed after the match, he joked that it was not a complete moment to celebrate.

He said: “It’s not sunk in yet. I’m a Man Utd fan, so I’m half-fuming a little bit.

“Nights like this is what you play football for. Just brilliant.

“I should have done a little bit better (in the shootout), shouldn’t I?

“I made one save to keep us in it and the boys have done the rest. It’s brilliant.”

Gimsby have been rewarded with another big game in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

They will travel to the iconic Hillsborough Stadium to take on Sheffield Wednesday.
