SAINSBURY’S Nectar card shoppers can save £100’s on their shop with easy tricks from 5p fuel to offers on cheap wine.
Customers who are signed up to its loyalty card scheme earn points when they shop in store, which can be used as money off vouchers.
Nectar Card is a loyalty scheme where customers earn points on purchases at Sainsbury’s[/caption]
So for example, one Nectar point is worth 0.5p, with 100 points worth 50p and 200 points are worth £1.
Saving up your points can be a great way to get discounts on your Christmas groceries or food for a party.
But there are plenty of other ways to use your Nectar card to save cash in the store.
Better yet, some of these offers are not exclusive to Nectar card holders, so you can still save even if you left your loyalty card at home.
Read below to find out more.
Fill up your car for less
Sainsbury’s shoppers can collect points when they fill up at Esso service stations, and get discounted fuel.
As part of the scheme, drivers collect one Nectar point for every litre of fuel purchased.
Plus, they get two points for every £1 spent in the shop at participating Esso Branded Service Stations.
Shoppers can also use their Nectar points to get 5p off every litre of fuel when they swap 300 points.
To take part in the scheme, you will need to scan your loyalty card at the till when you fill up your tank.
But it is important to remember to shop around for the best fuel options, as it is not always guaranteed that Esso is the cheapest.
Cheap wine deals
If you regularly host parties then it may be worth keeping an eye out for Sainsbury’s discounts on wine.
When the offer is running, the chain will offer a 25% discount when you buy six or more bottles of wine or fizz.
To avail of the offer, you will need to scan your Nectar card at the till to get the saving.
Usually, the promotion can not be used on wine under £6 in England and under £7 in Wales.
Sainsbury’s is not currently running the offer, but keep an eye out by checking the offers and promotion section of the group’s website.
£2 Fruit and Veg boxes
Keep an eye out for bargain fruit and veg boxes the next time you are at a larger Sainsbury’s store.
The initiative was rolled out in 2023, to help tackle food waste.
Customers can find the boxes in Sainsbury’s fresh produce aisles and all products included are carefully selected to ensure they are still fresh.
Get a delivery pass
If you love getting your Sainsbury’s groceries delivered to your home, why not invest in a delivery pass.
These passes allow customers to pay a flat fee either monthly, yearly or six monthly, and then get their deliveries for free.
You can also get first dips on booking your Christmas delivery slot.
The supermarket has two different passes for customers to choose from.
This includes an Anytime Delivery Pass, which entitles you to one free delivery per day, 7 days per week when you spend £40 or more.
This pass costs £80 for 12 months, £43 for 6 months or £7.50 for a monthly pass.
Or you can choose a Midweek Delivery Pass, which entitles you to one free delivery per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when you spend £40 or more.
This pass costs £40 for 12 months, or £4 for a monthly pass
Sainsbury’s estimates that you can save up to £168 per year with a delivery pass.
How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
