This viral TikTok user works in a highly unusual role that could earn you up to £45,000 annually.

The job in question is a mortuary technician, which the woman regulalry discusses on her social media accounts.

In one clip, she discussed the joining requirements for working in “the funeral profession”.

While the TikToker began as a funeral service operative, she eventually worked her way up the ladder.

However, there is no clear cut way to enter this industry – with experience and compassion as the main assets.

According to the mortuary worker, there weren’t many requirements for those applying for the position.

“The only requirement I had to have was a driver’s license,” she told her followers.

She recalled how she learned on the job, shadowing someone for her first week and completing tasks as the funeral director observed.

It took her about four or five weeks to get all the aspects of the job signed off.

According to the TikToker, the only one she struggled with was pall bearing due to her short stature.

“There was no official training, you’re given a booklet and read through it, to be fair, majority of it is on the job training,” she explained.

Now she uses her online platform to answer questions about her unique career.

People ask her everything from how bodies are embalmed to her preferred funeral arrangements.

The TikToker has also used her position to lead discussions on grief and coping with loss.

Her followers shared their support for the important work in the comments section.

Statistics on the profession

According to data from 2023, there are 27,242 UK residents employed in the wider funeral activities industry.

Of this, there are an estimated 16,800 undertakers, mortuary, and crematorium assistants working in the UK.

“You looked after my relative and I know I say it all the time without you and your hard work and determination we would never of got to say goodbye,” said one viewer.

“Love these videos, you’re so interesting,” wrote another commenter.

“It’s amazing what you all do, I really want to do this,” commented a third person.
