Reddit users were gobsmacked by the “serious” letter and many urged her to take it to the police[/caption]
Not only were people left stunned by the foul-mouthed letter, but many advised the single occupant to immediately go to the police.
Posting on the r/bournemouth thread on Reddit, the anonymous woman, who writes under the username @Otherwise-Plate-4500 uploaded a snap of the short but very blunt letter.
The Bournemouth-based woman, who has moved to a shared building, titled her post “Downstairs neighbour left me a threatening note” and expressed her concern at the noise complaint.
Alongside the shocking hand-written note, the woman explained: “I’ve recently moved to a place and I found this note under my door.
“I live alone and I’m not doing much at night to warrant this tone.”
The angry note read: ‘If u keep banging on my ceiling and keeping me awake I’m gonna lose my patience, and it won’t be good 4 u!’
As well as the rude threat, it continued: ‘F*****g stop.
‘U selfish c**nt.’
Bewildered at what to do, the woman continued: “I’m going to be more considerate in the future but what can I do? Should I complain to the letting agent?”
Opening up about the ordeal, she added: “I feel very uncomfortable and threatened.”
Reddit users were left open-mouthed by the very “aggressive” letter and many eagerly raced to the comments to share their thoughts on what the woman should do.
One person said: “That’s a serious threat, and it should be documented with the police and who might have a cautionary word with him/her.”
Say to the police as soon as possible so that they already have a record of contact if it ever escalates

Another added: “You can report it to the police and ask for it to be kept on a log so there is a record already. If they give you any more s**t you can just ask for the log to be updated.”
A third commented: “Keep hold of the note. Show it to the police if you get any other issues.”
Meanwhile, someone else advised: “Actually better to say to the police as soon as possible so that they already have a record of contact if it ever escalates.”
The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble
One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour’s argue
- Broken fences – top of the board was broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix it
- Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
- Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
- Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
- Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others
But at the same time, others could “understand” and sympathise with the woman’s neighbour and urged her to be “mindful” of noise when living in a shared building.
One user explained: “I understand his feelings. So annoying when people upstairs have no regard for people downstairs.”
A second recommended: “Perhaps maybe be mindful of the fact people live below you? Yes the note is way too aggressive, but also some flats are built terribly with no sound dampening. So perhaps try and be mindful a bit.”
Whilst one person suggested: “Go and talk to them. Find out what it is they think you’re doing. It might be something that isn’t you. If it is you then try to be more considerate and explain as much.
“Whatever it is, it must be enough to annoy them and dealing with the situation will prevent it from escalating. Not dealing with it is likely to lead to some kind of confrontation, which is not in anyone’s interest.”
