I wanted to go blonde but chunks of skin & hair fell out – I still have a bald patch from the burns & she charged me £37

A WOMAN who wanted to go blonde has told how she rushed to hospital and was told by doctors she’d suffered first degree chemical burns, which then resulted in chunks of her skin and hair falling out.

Kyrie, 18, from Statesville, North Carolina, US, returned to hospital days later when medics removed an orange-sized crater of dead skin, leaving the student with a bald patch that will likely never grow hair again.

“I like dying my hair,” Kyrie says.

“I’ve been dying my hair since I was 14 years old, I’ve never experienced a bad dye job.

“I decided to go to this hairdresser because she’d cut my hair when I was younger, she’d been in the business for a while.”

After the student looked at her clients and reviews, she was confident enough that she’d do a good job.

“She started lightening it with foils to bring it blonde,” Kyrie explains.

“After about an hour, my entire head felt like it was on fire.

“I have never felt pain like that before. I told her ‘it feels really hot’ and started to cry and told her it really hurt.”

Kyrie told how the hairdresser started rinsing it and taking the foils off, but then she noticed her eyes go wide.

“She said ‘I don’t know what’s happened but your hair is smoking,’” the 18-year-old continues.

“I didn’t know what had happened, nothing like that had happened to me before.”

Kyrie said the hairdresser waived the colour fee but still charged her £37 ($50) for the cut before leaving the salon in tears.

Left in excruciating pain, Kyrie’s mum advised her to go to hospital where doctors told her she’d suffered first degree burns and later lifted the 4cm patch of ‘dead skin’ burnt onto her scalp.

“The healing process was very long,” Kyrie explains.

“The skin took a while to grow back. It took nearly two months just for the wound to close.

“They didn’t know if my hair would grow back or not. Nothing has grown back since, it’s a bald patch currently.

“Not one hair follicle has grown since it happened, I may never have hair there again.

“It was a very heavy thing to walk around with.”

Kyrie said it happened in the middle of her senior year, when she had prom and graduation.

“I was in so much physical and mental pain. Everyone else was getting excited for college, and I was in and out of hospital,” she explains.

“It definitely ruined my senior year, I was in a lot of pain.

“The hairdresser didn’t reach out to me or my mum once.

“If she had been that stressed, I do think she should’ve reached out. I left her salon in tears.”
