SHE thought she looked cute in her floral top and jeans.
So when her next door neighbour told her the top looked too big for her, Emma was left feeling “self-conscious” – and immediately went to change.

In a video on her TikTok page, Emma said she’s always really liked the ruched detail top, so was taken aback by the comment.
“I just went to get my bins in and my next-door neighbour said, ‘Oh, Emma, you’re looking lovely today. That top’s a bit big, though, isn’t it?’” she recalled.
“And it’s just made me self-conscious.
“I just had this on, which I absolutely love, but it’s a bit big for me, apparently.
“I mean, who even says that to somebody?”
Emma added that the comment prompted her to head inside and change, and she opted for a beige and white striped top instead.
“Is this, is this OK for you, Susan?” she sighed.
“Like, bloody hell!”
“Hopefully this doesn’t offend anybody.”
“Hope you like this top Susan… she’s off my Christmas card list!” Emma joked in the caption for the video.
People were quick to comment on the clip, with many revealing similarly disheartening conversations with their own neighbours.
“My neighbour said I gained weight,” one sighed.
“Some people are rude – they should keep their comments to themselves.
“Even if they think something, doesn’t mean they have to say it!”
“I was putting out rubbish and my next door neighbour said stop eating so much and you wouldn’t have as much rubbish,” another added.
“It’s ok when I dropped off carrot cake cupcakes to my neighbour (I’m a baker) she said ‘oh they look nice’ I said ‘they taste nice’,” a third wrote.
The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble
One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour’s argue
- Broken fences – top of the board was broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix it
- Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
- Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
- Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
- Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others
“And then jokingly continued with ‘I need to stop eating them’
“She looked me up and down and said ‘yeah you do’ and laughed.
“I was a size 12 at the time and was actually on a weight loss journey!”
“Stop ok you win,” Emma replied.
“The fact you were on a weight loss journey too – what a kick in the teeth!
“Was her name Susan?”
“Your top was really lovely, I thought you looked good,” someone else commented.
“How rude to say something like that!
“Maybe say something like that to her next time about her hair or make-up.”
“I might walk past her house in a minute she’s doing her garden and say ‘Is that too too big for you?’,” Emma laughed in response.
