‘I’d be so embarrassed’ people say as man is filmed popping the question outside the TOILETS on a flight to Benidorm

PLENTY of gorgeous sunshine, cheap booze and sunbed wars can only describe one place – Benidorm.

But now the beloved tourist hotspot has gone viral for a totally different reason, after a man popped the question outside the toilets during a journey to the seaside resort.

Fellow sun-loving passengers were filming the moment – including Nicki Gunner who shared the footage on TikTok

The passenger, whose identity remains unknown, was recorded proposing to his partner on an EasyJet flight to Spain.

As there are no airports in Benidorm, the flight was most likely heading to Alicante – the closest and most convenient airport for travelers visiting the popular resort.

Fellow sun-loving passengers were filming the moment – including Nicki Gunner who shared the footage on TikTok.

In the clip, which has since taken the internet by storm, the man was seen holding his now-fiancée’s hands right by the front toilets of the plane.

After supposedly declaring his love to her, the man, wearing navy shorts and a white polo shirt, got on his left knee.

As other travellers were cheering for the couple, he popped out the ring, before everyone started clapping for the pair.

After sharing a hug, the man then put the ring on her finger – and they had officially become engaged.

Although it is not known whether the crew were aware that the flight would soon be filled with love, an air hostess wished the two ”many, many happy returns”.

Sharing the clip on her page, Nicki wrote alongside the footage: ”Nothing beats an EasyJet proposal outside the toilets on a flight to Benidorm.”

The short video, uploaded under the username @nickigunner, just a day ago has already won more than 550k views.

But despite the romantic news, not everyone was a fan of the proposal settings, as over 600 people flooded to comments to share their thoughts.

Many were baffled by the decision to pop the question by the loos and wondered why the man ”couldn’t wait until they got there”.

One person said: ”you’re going on holiday, do it on the beach at sunset. Even if its only Benidorm, its still better than outside a sh***er.”

Another, meanwhile, thought: ”He wanted free drinks on the flight.”

How to ace a proposal

Thinking of proposing? Follow this checklist by Fabulous’ Deputy Editor Josie Griffiths to ensure a yes…

  1. Time it right – the average Brit waits between 18 months and two years to get engaged. But you might feel ready after six months, or decide to wait five plus years to pop the question. Only you truly know when the time’s right, and this isn’t a decision you want to rush. Falling in love might feel amazing but of course most relationships DON’T end in marriage – and this is for good reason…
  2. Pay attention – hopefully you haven’t reached the point yet of your frustrated partner leaving their laptop open with ‘hints’ for rings they like. Ideally you’ll want the ring to be a secret, but also something they’d happily wear – and for the rest of their life, so just a TEENY bit of pressure here. You need to be paying attention to any comments your partner makes about other people’s rings, what they do and don’t like, and what’s most important to them – size, clarity, specific details. If you’re really unsure, or if your partner hates surprises, it’s best to propose with a dummy and then buy the real thing together.
  3. Family matters – tradition dictates that you ask the dad’s permission for his daughter’s hand in marriage, but it’s not so straightforward nowadays. Maybe your partner’s closer to their step-dad, or wants her mum to walk her down the aisle, in which case you’d be better off chatting to them. Maybe they’d find it weird if you went to their parents first, in which case you could ditch the whole thing. Or perhaps they’re closer to their friends and the best idea would be letting your partner’s best mate pick the ring. These things do matter and could come back to bite you if handled in the wrong way.
  4. Plan the setting – does your partner dread being centre of attention, or are they someone who’d be gutted if you proposed at home, berating you forever for a lack of ‘effort’? Plan the place for your perfect proposal – how busy it’ll be, whether you’ll be able to get a good pic there, and other logistics around it. A proposal at the top of a mountain might sound good in theory but your girlfriend might not actually appreciate it when there’s sweat dripping down her forehead and she’s not wearing the cute dress she’d imagined for the pictures. Personally, I can’t think of anything worse than a public proposal where everyone’s waiting to hear your answer – in a group of friends, the middle of a restaurant or with an announcement at an event. So bear all of this in mind and remember, it’s meant to be about what THEY want, not you.

”I am sorry but that would be a no from me,” someone else chimed in.

”I’d be so embarrassed,” a TikToker agreed.

But not everyone was slamming the loved-up holiday-goer, as one person wrote a reply to hit back at the trolls.

”Just let them enjoy life, we don’t know the backstory.. could they met on a plane, could be that is when he knew he loved her.

”People are so sad to put these people down for what they are doing.”

”They might have met on this same route 10 years ago this might be really sentimental to them. Congratulations to them,” someone else said, wishing the couple happiness.
