A SINGLE mother with seven children has opened up on living in a three-bedroom house.
Amy, who has kids aged between one and 16, lives in a council property with her youngsters.
The content creator got candid on “squeezing everyone” into her tiny home by turning what was once a three-bedroom place into a home with five separate rooms.
But the savvy mum was met with a barrage of nasty abuse from mean trolls.
Not only did haters describe her life as “absolute hell,” but others claimed it was “unfair to keep having kids.”
It comes after the mother posted a short clip on social media showing off her home, leaving many totally gobsmacked.
She said: “There’s eight of us that live in a three-bedroom house – here’s how I’ve managed to squeeze everyone in.”
First things first, Amy gave her followers a close-up look at her son Dexter’s bedroom, who has a high sleeper bed with a desk underneath.
Next door, three of her daughters – Meadow, Everly and Winnie – share a bedroom.
Despite having bunk beds, Amy claimed that Meadow and Everly both sleep on the bottom bunk.
Not only this, but she acknowledged that her daughter Winnie “ends up in my bed every night.”
The mother, who often uses her lunch break to “reset” her home, then took viewers into her room, which she calls “the dumping ground.”
She continued: “This room stresses me out as soon as I walk into it – I’ve got a built-in wardrobe for the majority of my clothes and I always hide Christmas and birthday bits in this cupboard.
“This room needs a major sort out, but it’s just trying to find the time to do it.”
As well as her bed, Amy’s room is also complete with her youngest child’s crib.
How can I get a council house?
To apply for a council home, you need to fill out and hand in an application to your local authority.
To find your local authority, simply use the Government’s council locator tool on its website.
Once you have access to your local council’s website, it should offer you guidelines on how to complete your application.
After applying, you’ll most likely have to join a waiting list.
Bear in mind, even if you are put on a waiting list, this doesn’t guarantee you a council house offer.
Your council should also offer you advice on how to stay in your current home and solve any issues you might have, such as problems with a private landlord or mortgage.
You are eligible to apply for council housing if you are a British citizen living in the UK providing have not lived abroad recently.
Each council has its own local rules about who qualifies to go on the housing register in its area, but it is based on “points” or a “banding” system.
For example, you’re likely to be offered housing first if you:
- are homeless
- live in cramped conditions
- have a medical condition made worse by your current home
- are seeking to escape domestic violence
Once you are high enough on a council’s waiting list, it will contact you when a property is available.
Some councils let people apply at the age of 18, while others let you apply even sooner at 16-year-olds.
EU workers and their families and refugees may also be eligible.
A council house is reached through a points system, so depending on your housing needs, you may be considered low priority.
The council will contact you about any available property once you are high enough on the waiting list.
There is no limit on how long you can expect to be on the waiting list.
Downstairs in Amy’s home is a lounge, as she shared: “This used to be the length of the house, but the girl’s uncle partitioned it – he actually did it within a day, which allowed Teagan to have her own room.”
Not only does the young girl have a double bed in the “nice space,” but she’s also got a wardrobe and a desk too.
As well as this, just off of the kitchen was a tiny box room, as Amy explained: “This is Keziah’s room – it’s the smallest room in the house, but at least it’s her own space.”
Nasty trolls flood in
Amy’s TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @singlewithseven, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 439,000 views in just 17 hours.
Not only this, but it’s also amassed 10,500 likes, 385 comments and 402 saves.
But unfortunately, haters were out in full force and many flocked to the comments with harsh, judgemental comments.
My idea of absolute hell. I couldn’t think of anything worse
TikTok user
One person said: “I probably wouldn’t have kept having kids. Seems unfair.”
Another added: “Single mum to seven kids is wild.”
A third commented: “Could of stopped at two/three kids.”
Meanwhile, someone else wrote: “My idea of absolute hell. I couldn’t think of anything worse. There are three of us in a four bed house and I don’t think it’s big enough at times.”
At the same time, one hater snapped: “A three bedroom house that has five bedrooms.”
To this, someone wrote back and replied: “One of the ‘bedrooms’ is a tiny dining room or converted utility. One ‘bedroom’ is the living room with a fake wall installed. There’s only three bedrooms and the other two are bodge-jobs. It is 100% a three bedroom house.”
