The Sun’s Deputy Travel Editor Kara Godfrey fell in love with the city when she visited.
She explained: “I spent a week properly exploring Copenhagen by myself, and it became one of my favourite European cities.
“Of course a visit to Tivoli – a small theme park that was said to have inspired Disney – is a must, along with a trip to see the Little Mermaid statue
“But cafe hopping is also a must especially when visiting in autumn for some extra warmth.
“Head to Atelier September for a coffee and people watching afternoon, or Mad & Kaffe for a brunch platter.
“I’m still dreaming of my tasty porridge from GROD, a bar that only serves porridge, risotto and congee.”
Here are some other tips from local Lasse Borch, general SPOTLIGHT manager at chic hostel, Generator.
MUST SEE/DO
Take a bike ride through the city like a real Copenhagener!
Start in Norrebro, swing by the Lakes, pass through Nyhavn, and end up at Reffen for street food and harbour views – it’s a vibrant, urban oasis with a focus on street food, creative workshops, and a lively atmosphere, all set within a waterfront location.
HIDDEN GEM
Bibliotekshaven (The Library Garden). It is a peaceful little garden tucked behind Christiansborg.

Perfect for a quiet moment with a coffee.
Locals love to swim in summer and Lasse’s tip is Kalvebod Bolge – less crowded than Islands Brygge and perfect for a quick dip.
BEST VIEW
CopenHill – it is a power plant turned into an urban ski slope with panoramic views of the city and harbour. Bonus:
You can walk (or run) to the top for free.
Bring your own drinks and hang out like locals at places like Dronning Louises Bro or Ofelia Plads – it is free and social.
RESTAURANT
Le Petit Rouge. It is an amazing French bistro in the heart of Copenhagen filled with modern illustrations and antique art.
You will find both classic French dishes and innovative reinterpretations of traditional favourites – all at amazing prices.
BEST BAR
The Petanque & Shuffleboard bar at the Generator Copenhagen.
It is like an adult playground, buzzing with good vibes and a lot of different people, making it a really great place to socialise and make new friends.
With cocktails from £10 it is a go-to place to grab a drink and have a bit of fun.
