But behind the scenes, 47-year-old Katie had already been working on new music with producer Rick Live.

The pair first met back in 2010 and have collaborated on songs from Hurricane and Heartbroken.

Her surprise chart success came out of the blue for the old friends who say they were left “humbled”.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Rick Live told us: “This was all completely unexpected. My phone started blowing up and I had about 60 missed calls and a load of text messages from people saying ‘you’re back in the charts’.

“It’s mad.

“Katie’s absolutely buzzing about it, we both are.”

The music creator has been working with Katie on a new record – with plans to unite her with X Factor winner Sam Bailey.

“We’re finishing up the next song now.

“Sound-wise it’s all done. The vocals have all been laid down by a studio session singer that I’ve got.

“Katie’s currently learning the music now and then we have studio sessions booked the week after next for her to lay down her vocals.

“But this had already been in the planning.

“It is just coincidence that this week some old music made it back in the charts.”

Katie’s next tune – set to be released later this month – is called Broken.

“This one really resonated with Katie,” said Rick.

“For her it’s about being broken, but putting herself back together again.

“She says it is something that is quite relevant to her because every time things have gone wrong – whether she’s broken her legs or her relationship’s gone sideways or her exes are blowing up again – she’s like, ‘no, don’t worry about it. I’ll reset. I’ll put myself back together again. It’s fine.’”

Katie is set to return to the studio next week to record her vocals on the track.

She’s also keen to work with X Factor’s Craig Colton who wrote I Got U.

Explaining the creative process, Rick says: “I make the records and write the records, so what we do is sit down in the studio and go through my huge catalogue and anything that Katie’s like, ‘yeah, actually, I like that, that relates to me’ then we’ll see if it fits vocally.

“When we find one that suits her we can change the pitch and change the key.

“Then once we get the vocals down, then I kind of strip everything like background music out and then just build it from absolute scratch.”
