Leeds vs Newcastle preview
Two passionate fan bases and two clubs craving success in the top flight.
Leeds and Newcastle meet on Saturday night, both looking to bounce back from disappointing results last time out.
In Leeds’ case, they were decent for the first half an hour at the Emirates and held Arsenal well until a whimper of a second half saw them eventually lose 5-0.
A chance to bounce back arrived a few days later against a Sheffield Wednesday side in turmoil with fans boycotting, yet were held to a 1-1 draw and taken to penalties before failing to score a single spot kick as they were dumped out.
A disappointing week so far but they can put that right against what will be a very under-strengthed Newcastle side.
Eddie Howe’s side were terrific on Monday night at home to Liverpool, despite Anthony Gordon’s first half red card.
They didn’t appear to get the rub of the green with one or two other decisions and lost Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Fabian Schar through injury.
Add in there the continued Alexander Isak absence – which shows no sign of being sorted anytime soon – and Gordon’s suspension and that is five of Newcastle’s most important players set to miss the trip to Yorkshire as they go in search of their first win.

It’s difficult to know what sort of side Eddie Howe can patch up together for this one.
Leeds are back in front of their home fans having won their league opener against Everton but this – despite the issues for the visitors – is a step up.
Leeds look like they could struggle for many goals this year, coupled with Newcastle’s strong defence. Could be a tight one.

Bruno Guimaraes will have to do without midfield pals Sandro Tonali and Joelinton who both picked up injuries on Monday night.
The Newcastle skipper continues to lead by example on the ball and off it and maybe the only surprise from Monday was his headed goal and the booking was for dissent – though was rightly angry at Simon Hooper’s decision.
