Major pizza chain makes huge menu change across 187 branches in bid to rival KFC – is your local getting it?

A MAJOR pizza chain has revealed it’s making a huge change to its menus in a bid to rival KFC and Popeyes.

Domino’s is launching brand new chicken items as part of the Chick ‘N’ Dip range.

The new items will include chicken tenders, wings and boneless bites, as well as a range of nine dips.

The Chick ‘N’ Dip range will be trialled first across 187 stores in the North West of England and in Northern Ireland.

That means Domino’s fans elsewhere will have to wait a little longer to give the new menu items a go.

Domino’s boss Andrew Rennie said there is “clearly demand” from consumers for more chicken-based menu items.

“Chicken is absolutely on trend and that is not going away – it’s a great source of protein and we have really strong products,” he said.

He also hinted that the pizza chain is hoping to rival major chicken brands like KFC and Popeyes.

“We are big fans of other brands in that space but we already have 1,400 stores across the UK and really strong distribution so think we are in a really good position to make this work,” he said.

Popeyes recently secured millions of pounds in funding so it could open 45 new restaurants in the UK.

The fast-growing US brand already opened 33 locations across the country last year.

Wingstop also has plans to open 20 more UK sites this year.

These include dine-in restaurants in Swansea, Newcastle, Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, Streatham in South London and Cardigan Fields in Leeds.

Meanwhile Chick-fil-A, best known for its chicken sandwiches and waffle fries, has plans to open five UK restaurants within the next two years.

Domino’s has faced challenges in recent months, with its shares falling to their lowest level for a decade in August.

The chain said it had come under pressure from “weaker” consumer confidence and its store opening plans had been impacted by caution among franchisees after recent rises in labour costs and taxes.

What else has changed on the Domino’s menu?

Domino’s removed a number of popular pizzas from its UK menus.

The fast food giant recently axed three vegan pizza flavours.

The Plant-Based American Hot, Plant-Based Peppy-roni and Plant-Based Chick’n Winner are no longer available to order from stores.

Plus, the much-loved Ultimate Chicken Mexicana Pizza was also cut from the menu.

How to save money on pizza

TAKEAWAY pizzas taste great but they can hit you hard on your wallet. Here are some tips on how to save on pizza:

Cashback websites – TopCashback and Quidco will pay you to order your pizza through them. They’re paid by retailers for every click that comes to their website from the cashback site, which eventually trickles down to you. So you’ll get cashback on orders placed through them.

Discount codes – Check sites like VoucherCodes for any discount codes you can use to get money off your order.

Make you own topping – One savvy customer noticed that Domino’s charges up to 70p MORE for pizzas on its menu compared to ordering the same one through the “create your own” option. It’s worth trying out to see if it makes a difference before you place your next order.

Buy it from the shops – It might not taste exactly the same but you’ll save the most money by picking up your favourite pizza from your local supermarket. Some Asda stores sell freshly made ones from the pizza counter where prices start at £2.
