Modern 2-bed home boasts stunning, recently modified interiors – but house hunters all say same thing about the outside

IN an area where everything is “overpriced” the cost of this two-bedroom house in East London has some neighbours up in arms.

With a red cedar exterior and pitched roof the property has similarities to a children’s ‘Wendy house’, but it comes with a far greater price tag of £980,000.

Real estate Dexters has advertised the architecturally designed Scoble Place home as, “impressively unique and eye-catching”.

“The price is obscene, I definitely wouldn’t buy it,” a nearby resident told MyLondon.

However another local, Fatou Gassama, said she wasn’t surprised by the high cost.

“This is Hackney, so it’s always going to be expensive,” she said.

“My neighbour sold his one bed flat for £360,000.

“Everything is overpriced, and particularly here.”

A resident living on the same street as the property did however defend the eye-watering price and style of the home.

“It’s completely different to the streets nearby, this is my favourite place I’ve lived in,” she said.

The house was originally placed on the market in July for offers over £1 million.

That price tag was slightly reduced later the same month.

Now, more than two months on, the detached home is still for sale.

It boasts two double bedrooms, a modern bathroom, an open plan kitchen and living room with terrace and private garden.

The real estate has advertised its proximity to “many green spaces; Hackney Downs, London Fields with its famous lido and vibrant Broadway Market”.

The average house price in Hackney was £586,000 in June this year.

That’s down from  £620,000 in June 2024, according to the Office for National Statistics.

But the astonishing prices in London‘s housing market remain in the spotlight.

It’s not the first time the large cost of a small home has come under fire.

A house in Clapton that was sandwiched between two buildings and lamented by some as the “smallest house in Britain” was last year advertised for half a million pounds.
