MARIAH Carey let her hair down after the VMAs and was filmed during a chaotic after-party, slurring her words as she sang along to her hit song with Busta Rhymes.
The Fantasy hitmaker, 56, took to the stage at the annual awards ceremony on Sunday at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Mariah also picked up her first award and was honored by her peers.
After the ceremony, she headed to a private members’ club in the city, The Twenty Two, for a bash with collaborator and longtime friend, rapper Busta Rhymes.
Exclusive footage obtained by The U.S. Sun shows Mariah holding the microphone as their hit, I Know What You Want, played to the cheering crowd.
Mimi slurred her words as she started singing the intro to fans, with Busta trying to help her out.
Partygoers standing behind the booth could be seen laughing.
Busta put his arm around the star and could be heard saying, “Mariah, sing,” as she proceeded to belt out the words out of tune.
The pair laughed as the hitmaker struggled to stay in tune.
Busta then took over again as they continued to perform the 2002 hit song.
He then begged, “Come on Mariah, give me a note,” as she looked unsteady on her feet standing beside him.
She then announced, “Ok, we gotta promote this album right now,” referencing her new record, Here for It All, which is scheduled to be released on September 26.
In another exclusive video clip from the event, Busta announced on the microphone, “Please send me a f***ing vodka on the rocks up this b***.”
‘DRUNKEN APPEARANCE’
Mariah then responded, “Please can I have one too, thank you, oh my God, you guys are so cute,” as she slurred her words.
An eyewitness told The U.S. Sun, “A true queen, Mariah ensured the playlist was almost entirely her own music as she also set to promote her new album.
“Mariah was in good spirits, and she stayed at the party past 2 am.
“She was clearly drunk and having a good time. She made it clear she swapped her usual champagne for vodka.”
She also demanded producer Jermaine Dupri come to the microphone, as she asked, “Can we play a Jermaine Dupri record please? I can’t take this.”
The pair laughed together as Mariah slurred, “Jermaine calls me a rapper. I don’t know what to say, but like I love you. I’m not a rapper.”
Addressing the crowd, she then snapped, “These people are so loud. Hello. We ain’t tryin’ to hear y’all. We don’t wanna hear y’all.”
Mariah later tried to promote her new album again, shouting, “The release date is the 26th. Who is touching my arm?
“Stop touching my arm, okay. So, whatever. I mean, what can I say, the 26th, fine, whatever, bye.”
The DJ laughed nervously as the singer shouted, “I’m doing the best I can with what I got.”
A clip of the private party also leaked on TikTok, in which Busta was seen praising a seemingly drunk Mariah.
One fan wrote underneath, “She’s feeling her champagne darling.”
Another added, “She is GONE,” with a stream of laughing emojis.
“I’m here for drunkriah activities,” a third wrote.
Despite her wild appearance at the bash, she stunned in a leather dress and marching jacket with boots.
She also accessorized with large diamond earrings and a matching necklace.
WORRYING PERFORMANCES
It’s not the first time Mariah has slurred her words and left fans scratching their heads.
She sparked concern during the iHeart Radio Awards in March this year when she struggled with an acceptance speech.
The R&B star picked up the Icon Award and asked the crowd, “Is the lighting okay? Because I don’t like bad lighting. Okay. Do you like the ensemble?”
Fans were left worried about her, with one writing, “I’ve been really concerned about her since last year tbh. She always just seems low energy and out of it.
“It may sound weird to say but I hope that it’s just her still recovering from the loss of her mother & sister and not something more.”
Someone else agreed, “Tbh Mariah hasn’t been the same since around the time she broke up with Tanaka,” referencing her ex.
Back in December, fans also pointed out her worrying NFL performance of her hit song All I Want For Christmas Is You for Netflix’s Christmas Gameday.
The stream caused an online outcry with viewers saying they wanted the performance to be live.
One slammed the singer’s energy and described the show as “a pretape where she can’t even keep her eyes open.”
“So embarrassing,” another added on social media.
FIRST TROPHY
Mariah had a big night at the VMAs this weekend, as it was her first appearance in 20 years.
She delivered a medley of hits during her polished performance.
It was also the first time she won a trophy, as she was honored by Ariana Grande with the Video Vanguard Award.
“I can’t believe I’m getting my first VMA tonight,” she said while accepting the lifetime achievement prize.
“I just have one question: What in the Sam Hill were you waiting for?” she added, as the crowd laughed.
LL Cool J also presented Busta with the inaugural Rock the Bells Visionary Award.
It was his first win, despite being nominated for 16 VMAs throughout his long career.
“Y’all know I usually do these long speeches, I’m not gonna do one today,” he said in his speech.
“But next time y’all take 35 years to give me one of these, y’all gonna let me talk as long as I want!”
Rhymes went on to pay tribute to the “late, great, incredible royal empress” Ananda Lewis, the former MTV VJ and talk show host who died of breast cancer this year.
“I think we all need to acknowledge the incredible woman [who] loved us when we came to MTV during the ’90s,” he said. “She loved us, she loved the culture [and] she lifted us up.”
During the ceremony, Busta also performed a mix of hit songs, including “Break Ya Neck,” “Touch It,” and “Scenario.”
WILDEST MOMENTS IN VMAS HISTORY
Madonna’s Like a Virgin performance (1984): The controversial performance at the first-ever VMAs launched her into superstardom and established the awards show as a venue for bold pop culture moments.
Britney Spears, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera kiss (2003): During a medley that showcased Britney and Christina in wedding gowns, Madonna kissed them both. But it was Britney and Madge locking lips that was the kiss seen around the world. The moment was especially shocking when the camera cut to Britney’s then-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, whose stunned reaction seemed disapproving.
Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift (2009): After Taylor, 19, won the award for Best Female Video, Kanye, 32, rushed onto the stage and infamously declared that Beyoncé had the “best video of all time” for Single Ladies and deserved the award instead. This was the beginning of a decades-long feud between Kanye and Taylor, which continues to this day.
Lil Mama crashes the stage (2009): In the middle of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of Empire State of Mind, Lip Gloss rapper Lil Mama inexplicably walked up, despite being held back by Beyonce. She posed alongside Jay-Z and Alicia as she invited herself into the performance. She posed on stage with them at the end, despite Lil Mama not being a part of the song or the performance.
Lady Gaga’s meat dress (2010): The pop star wore a dress, hat, and shoes made entirely out of raw flank steak. She later explained the outfit was a protest against the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, stating it symbolized fighting for your rights or ending up “meat on your bones”.
Beyoncé’s pregnancy reveal (2011): At the end of her performance of Love on Top, Beyoncé unbuttoned her blazer and rubbed her belly, confirming her first pregnancy to the world. Her husband, Jay Z, watched from the crowd and celebrated with the audience.
Nicki Minaj vs. Miley Cyrus (2015): While accepting the award for Best Hip-Hop Video, Nicki called out Miley Cyrus, who was hosting that year, by asking, “Miley, what’s good?” Nicki later claimed she was genuinely upset with Miley due to comments she had recently made in an interview.
