A PREMIER League star’s dad has been charged with a sex attack in a Wetherspoon bar, The Sun can reveal.
He is accused of touching a woman inappropriately during a night out at the cut-price boozer.
The accused will appear at Sheffield magistrates’ court next month[/caption]
The man, aged in his 60s, whom we are not naming, was hunted by police after a woman complained in March.
He was questioned for several hours after handing himself in and has now been charged with sexual assault.
A source said: “It’s a huge shock for everyone.
“He was out with family on the night in question and denies any wrongdoing.
“He has co-operated with the police throughout and has been floored by the decision to charge him.
“He’s never been in trouble with the police before.”
Police had issued CCTV pictures as part of a public appeal in the days after the alleged attack.
They said the man reportedly approached the woman from behind and touched her inappropriately.
She was said to have been left “shaken” by the incident.
Shocked pals had frantically contacted the suspect, whose son is an international player, to alert him to the appeal being made.
The star’s dad handed himself in and, after being interviewed, was later released on bail.
But he has since been charged and will appear at Sheffield magistrates’ court next month.
A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the man had been charged with a single count of sexual assault.
The police declined to comment.
