Nuno Espirito Santo – 11/8

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo remains firmly in the frame to be the first Premier League manager sacked this season, with pressure mounting at the City Ground.

The 51-year-old raised eyebrows last week by admitting his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis has “changed” and that they’re “not as close” as before. Tensions are believed to stem from the club’s transfer dealings, now overseen by Edu, with Nuno reportedly frustrated at being sidelined.

Forest have spent over £150million on seven new signings – including Omari Hutchinson, Dan Ndoye, Arnaud Kalimuendo and James McAtee – but Nuno is still pushing for reinforcements, particularly a new goalkeeper and two full-backs.

Despite insisting he won’t walk away, Nuno has refused to guarantee he’ll still be in charge come the end of the window. He had been as short as 1/2 to be the first boss axed, but has since drifted to 11/8.

Graham Potter – 11/8

West Ham boss Graham Potter is priced at 9/4 to be the first Premier League manager axed, down from 4/1 earlier this week after a nightmare run of results.

His miserable week hit rock bottom on Tuesday as the Hammers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Wolves – conceding twice in the final eight minutes of a 3-2 defeat, with Jorgen Strand Larsen bagging a late brace. The final whistle sparked ugly scenes as Jarrod Bowen clashed with an angry supporter.

That came on the heels of a 5-1 hammering by Chelsea and an opening-day loss to newly-promoted Sunderland – piling pressure on the former Brighton and Chelsea boss.

Potter’s record makes grim reading: just five wins in 22 matches since replacing Julen Lopetegui in January, with 12 defeats and a dire average of 0.95 points per game – the worst of any manager in West Ham’s history. It doesn’t get easier, either, with a trip to Nottingham Forest next, followed by clashes against Spurs, Palace, Everton and Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim – 3/1

Ruben Amorim has been slashed into 3/1 to be the first Premier League manager sacked – after starting the week as a 25/1 outsider.

The Manchester United boss is under fire following Wednesday’s shock Carabao Cup exit to League Two Grimsby, who led 2-0 at half-time before sealing a dramatic win on penalties. Amorim came under criticism for remaining slumped in the dugout as the shootout unfolded.

Backed with £200million worth of new signings after United’s worst league finish since 1975, Amorim is winless in his first two Premier League games and has now recorded just 17 wins in 45 matches since taking charge.

The 40-year-old didn’t help himself post-match either, offering a cryptic take that his players “spoke really loud” and that “something has to change” – but “it can’t be 22 players again.” United now face Burnley on Saturday, followed by tough tests against Manchester City and Chelsea after the break.

What happened last season?

A total of eight Premier League managers were shown the door last season, with Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag the first to go in October.

Steve Cooper’s short-lived stint at Leicester came to a sudden end in November, before Wolves and Southampton parted ways with Gary O’Neil and Russell Martin on the same December afternoon.

Julen Lopetegui and Sean Dyche followed in January, their departures announced less than 24 hours apart. In April, Ivan Juric became the second Southampton manager to be sacked during the 2024–25 campaign.

Despite ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought, Ange Postecoglou was the final manager to leave his post, dismissed in June after overseeing the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish – 17th.
