Royal family member rejected Celebrity Traitors despite ‘being a fan’ of hit BBC show

A MUCH-LOVED member of the Royal Family turned down a spot on The Traitors’ celeb spin off – despite being “a fan of the show.”

The public figure, 65, was approached “early on”, it has been claimed, but ultimately decided against being a traitor or a faithful on the BBC‘s new series.

The Sun was the first to reveal the full Celebrity Traitors cast list back in April.

Yet Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, was not in the mix for the show.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, viewers will be be treated to a mix of A-listers, popular actors, TV stars and singing icons as a spin-off series to the original Traitors.

The celebrities will play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning a cash prize of up to £100K for a charity of their choice.

Now it has been suggested Prince Andrew’s former wife and the kother to his children could have been battling it out against the likes of Kate Garraway and Charlotte Church.

A source told The Daily Express: “The Duchess was approached about Celebrity Traitors early on.

“We got the impression she was a fan of the show but eventually turned it down on the basis that she doesn’t do celebrity shows.”

They added: “That doesn’t mean the BBC has given up on trying to get her to take part in a future series, however.”

The BBC then declined to comment to the publication.

The Sun has gone to the Duchess’ reps, who did not have a comment.

SERIES START

Meanwhile, anticipation has been building for the Celebrity Traitors series ahead of its start date this autumn.

The famous faces set to battle it out include telly stalwarts Clare Balding and Stephen Fry as well as Olympic diver Tom Daley.

The line-up also includes GMB fan favourite Kate Garraway, Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr, Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and Nick Mohammed.

Previously, host Claudia said of the Celebrity Traitors challenge: “We’re incredibly lucky these brilliant people have said yes.

How does The Traitors work and who hosts it?

The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.

Claudia Winkleman is the show’s host, and has now hosted all three series to date.

How does it work?

It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.

The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in “the ultimate game of truth and deception”.

The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.

While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).

Each night, the Traitors gather to “eliminate” one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition

Meanwhile, the traitors can be “banished” if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.

The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.

The prize sees the winner could get £120K.

“I’d love to say we’ll take it easy on them and they’ll just wander round the castle and eat toast for a couple of weeks but that would be a lie.”

After we revealed the full line-up, some fans were already quick to call out the show winner.

Meanwhile, the cast were accused of “giving away” spoilers, with Reddit users claiming comedian Lucy Beaumont revealed her placement at a stand-up gig.

The 41-year-old allegedly said she was “murdered” on the show “during the middle of the game”.

ALL GO

Meanwhile, in May we reported how Celebrity Traitors has been given the green light for a second season – despite the first not even making it to screens yet.

A TV source told The Sun: “The BBC has quietly ordered a second series of the celebrity spin-off, months before the first one airs this Autumn.

“It just proves how confident they are that the celeb version is going to be a huge hit.

“They haven’t seen the viewer reaction yet but bosses have watched early edits of the first series now that filming has wrapped and it’s exceeded all their wildest expectations.

“They are thrilled with it and hastily commissioned another run.

“The booker team are already at work scouting big showbiz names for the next line-up – they have set themselves the goal of booking even bigger A-listers than they got for the first series.

They have their work cut out for them but stars are clamouring to head to the castle, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

“This is the show they all want to be on.”

The show will air on BBC One and iPlayer next month.
