ODDS on Ruben Amorim being the next Premier League manager to get the boot have been slashed from 16/1 to just 13/8 overnight – after Manchester United’s horror show at League Two Grimsby Town.
Betfair’s dramatic price cut came in the wake of a humiliating Carabao Cup exit, with United dumped out by a side three divisions and 56 places below them – and whose entire squad is worth £765.9million less than the Red Devils.
The Mariners took full advantage of a woeful first-half display, scoring twice before holding their nerve in a marathon penalty shootout.
Ruben Amorim was serenaded with “sacked in the morning” chants by jubilant home fans – and was later slammed for cowering on the bench as the spot-kicks unfolded.
The under-fire United boss, 40, then offered a cryptic post-match response, saying his players “spoke really loud” and that “something has to change” – but that it “can’t be 22 players again.”
Betfair now list Amorim as second-favourite behind West Ham’s Graham Potter (11/10) to be the first managerial casualty of the new season.
And he’s now odds-on (8/11) to be out of the United job by Christmas Day – with even-money on him still clinging to the role by then.

It’s no real shock either.
Amorim was backed with £200m worth of signings following United’s worst league finish since 1975 – but he’s winless in the league and has now managed just 17 wins in 45 games, with only seven of those coming in the Premier League.
His league record makes grim reading: 7 wins in 29, just 33 goals scored, 44 conceded, and a win percentage of 24.1% – the same as Neil Warnock, who was relegated twice from the top flight.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Question marks remain over Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United future after his side suffered a humiliating defeat to League Two outfit Grimsby Town on Wednesday evening.
“Subsequently, odds on Amorim to be the next Premier League manager to lose their job have been slashed to 13/8 from 16/1, with Graham Potter the 11/10 frontrunner.”
United now face Burnley on Saturday, before huge clashes against Manchester City and Chelsea after the international break.
