The new product from Maryland is a Choc Creme S’wich, which is a regular Maryland Chocolate Chip Cookie filled with a decadent, rich cream chocolate filling.
This has made it the UK’s first and only chocolate chip cookie sandwich, combining several different flavours.
One excited customer shared the find on Facebook’s Food Finds UK Official Group, and wrote: “Maryland switch chocolate creme cookies spotted in Sainsbury’s tonight.”
Other members shared the news, reacted and commented.
One person said: “I stocked up on these when they were £1.29 for 2 packs in premier.
“Tesco were selling at 99p from £1.50 at that time and the ones I got were price marked as £1.50.”
A second added their find: “They are now at Farmfoods for 99p.”
The mouth-watering new cookies landed in Tesco and Booker stores on July 16 for just £1.50.
It has since rolled out to all major retailers and wholesalers this month.
The 150g packets are now available at Sainsbury’s for £1.70 or just 90p with Nectar.
Trade Marketing Director at Fox Burton’s Companies which owns Maryland, David Hebson, said ahead of the new cookie’s launch: “The sandwich biscuit space has long been without a cookie variant — until now.
“Maryland S’wich is an exciting new proposition that combines the trusted appeal of Maryland with the indulgent format of a crunchy, crumbly and creamy sandwich cookie.”
“With strong consumer metrics behind the launch, we’re confident S’wich will deliver real incremental value.
There is hopes to meet growing shopper demand for “multi-sensorial textures” with this biscuit.
Mr Hebson added: “We’re excited to partner with the trade on what is a game-changing addition to the Sweet Biscuit aisle.”
The new product launch from Maryland comes the company has retained its position as the UK’s number one cookie brand, worth £72.4 million.
