I’ve slept on Simba for years, so when the brand’s most premium model landed — the Earth APEX — I had to find out if it could really justify a £2,000 price tag.
That’s serious money for a mattress, even for someone like me who has an uncanny knack for choosing the spendy option.

And because sleep is non-negotiable in my world (hello, chronic overthinker with a history of insomnia), I don’t hand out praise lightly.
My evenings are a finely tuned operation, from the right mattress to magnesium and a strict wind-down routine.
So I did what any sleep-obsessed reviewer would do: I lived with it for a full year.
After 12 months, here’s the honest take — the Earth APEX is outrageously comfortable, impressively supportive, and, yes, it has turned me into a bit of a mattress snob.
But is it worth the splurge? Here’s what I learned, plus what to know before you buy and when it’s worth waiting for a deal.

How we tested the mattress
I spent 12 months snoozing away on the Simba Earth APEX. Before that, we had the Simba Pro, which allowed for a pretty good comparison between the two Simba products.
My main focus factors for testing were comfort, support, design, and sleep statistic changes using the Oura Ring.
The Oura Ring tracks various statistics, including total sleep, efficiency, restfulness, REM sleep, deep sleep, latency, and timing.
Other statistics include the lowest heart rate, breathing regularity and average oxygen saturation.
Simba Earth APEX Mattress review: Quickdire Q&A
How much does the Simba Earth APEX mattress cost? Brace yourself: the Simba Earth APEX starts at £1,299 (single) and tops out at £2,599 (super king), with a king at £2,099. With a 10-year guarantee, that’s roughly 57p a night — and there are regular sale discounts to soften the blow.
Who is it best for? Anyone who wants balanced support. Its medium-firm feel suits side, back and front sleepers, while breathable layers help hot sleepers stay cool. Couples will love the motion isolation — you barely notice your partner moving — and edge support is solid.
What I loved: The sweet spot of support and cushioning — brilliant pressure relief with proper spinal alignment. It sleeps cool thanks to breathable layers. Motion transfer is minimal (vital with my on-call firefighter partner). And the eco-conscious materials tick my sustainability box.
What I didn’t: Downsides? A strong ‘new mattress’ smell for the first few hours after unboxing. It also needs rotating 180 degrees monthly for the first three months — a bit of a hassle. And it’s tall, so deep-pocket sheets are a must.
Simba Earth APEX review: quick summary
This is Simba’s most luxurious mattress to date[/caption]
Simba Apex Mattress, from £1,299 (single)
First impressions? It’s incredibly comfortable—an absolute dream to sleep on. However, I didn’t notice a significant improvement in sleep quality over the Pro.
If you already have a Simba mattress, you might want to stick with it until it’s worn out, especially considering the APEX comes with a pretty steep price tag.
If you’re considering an upgrade from another brand and the idea of a cashmere and mohair layer sparks excitement, keep reading.
If this is your first foray into luxury mattresses and you’re ready to get serious (and a bit bougie) about sleep, then the Simba Earth APEX might just be the one for you.

Simba Earth APEX Mattress: the nitty gritty
Unboxing and first impressions
Having had two Simba mattresses previously, I was surprised to see that this new top-end mattress didn’t come in the same chic box, vacuum-packed and rolled.
This came in a clear plastic protector, which I found handy for packing up our old mattress before transporting it to a family member.
The Simba website boasts VIP Delivery, and I can attest that they delivered it to a room of our choosing, navigating our steep staircase and a curious dog with ease.
Some might argue that would be the minimum you would expect from a mattress of this price, though.
It was packaged well when it arrived[/caption]

One perk of this is that the Apex was ready to go right out of the box—no wait to ‘inflate’ policy like most rolled mattresses that Simba offers.
The design is a real departure from other Simba mattresses, too, featuring a beautiful champagne gold cover made from wool and viscose, giving it a silky soft feel and a great first impression.
It’s also dimpled with buttons, unlike the flat surface of the Pro, and everything about it whispers quality and luxury.
The Simba Pro vs. APEX: What’s the difference between the two mattresses?
Metric | PRO | APEX |
Springs | 5,000 | 5,750 |
Depth | 28cm | 30cm |
Layers | 8 | 8 (including silk, mohair and cashmere layers) |
Comfort Spring Layers | 2 | 2 |
Base | SupportCore | QuadCore |
Top Layer | Wool | Silk, Mohair, and Cashmere |
The Simba APEX takes a new and fresh approach to traditional mattress springs with its QuadCore technology.
The springs are grouped into sets of four, which helps minimise the disruption you feel when your partner gets up for a midnight bathroom break.
While I wasn’t brave enough to try the classic “bounce on the mattress with a glass of red wine” test you see in ads, I did find that most nights, I didn’t even notice my significant other getting up.
He is an on-call firefighter, which means that day and night, when duty calls, he answers, which means my sleep can often be disrupted.
This clever spring isolation definitely contributed to a more peaceful night’s sleep.
Performance
A great litmus test I use for comfort is, “Will my dog sleep on it?”
Some of you might gasp at the idea of letting a dog nap on a £2,000 mattress, but it’s his home too, and nothing is off limits.
He rules the house with an iron paw. Transitioning from the Pro to the APEX, I immediately noticed our luxury-loving Labrador napping at the end of the bed most days, whereas he was strictly a sofa snoozer before.
To add some context, I should mention that my dog waits outside to have his paws wiped because he doesn’t like dirt in the house, so that should give you an indication of his standards.
Oura ring sleep data.[/caption]
Oura ring sleep time data.[/caption]
Now, let’s talk data; hopefully, I won’t lose you here. My Oura Ring, with its array of sensors, tracks things like resting heart rate, breathing, and restfulness.
Comparing week-to-week stats from the Pro to the APEX, I noticed a few things:
- Average sleep score increased by 6% (from an average of 81 to 86).
- Average total sleep time increased by 14% (from 7 hours 9 minutes to 8 hours and 8 minutes).
Take those stats with a pinch of salt, considering they also reflect late nights working and the occasional bottle of red wine. But overall, sleep quality and time in bed did improve.
If you’re reading this, you might be looking to invest in a mattress because of back pain. Back pain isn’t a new phenomenon for me.
Ten years ago, I was a character performer for a well-known mouse in Florida, and my body lives to tell the tale.
The costume was so heavy and my movements so dynamic that it actually moved my spine and slightly straightened the natural kink in my neck (I’ve had a lot of time and pain to reflect on if that was worth minimum wage, the answer is no).
I’ve gone through physio and chiropractors, and I’m in a good place now, but every so often, it rears its ugly head (or back, should I say).
You can expect exceptional sleep with this mattress.[/caption]
Simba Apex Mattress, from £1,299 (single)
The medium firmness of the APEX provides just the right amount of support. It’s not as soft as the Pro or the Hybrid but offers a firm, hug-of-a-mattress feel nonetheless.
I felt supported and stable all night and didn’t wake up with the aches and pains I get from any mattress that isn’t a Simba.

It’s got a luxurious blend of cashmere, mohair and organic silk layers.[/caption]
Simba Apex Mattress, from £1,299 (single)
I’ve mentioned it a few times, but I’m pretty obsessed with the fact that this mattress has cashmere, mohair, and organic silk layers.
It’s a great marketing claim if nothing else, but you can genuinely feel the added comfort these materials bring.
I always prioritise quality when buying my everyday clothing because I constantly straddle the line between comfort and style. This mattress fits perfectly into that ethos.
Where to buy the Simba Earth APEX
You can currently only buy the Simba Earth APEX mattress directly from Simba.
It isn’t available at any other retailers.
However, the Simba Hybrid Mattress is available on Amazon alongside some other Simba products.
What are some alternatives to the Simba Earth APEX?
I would argue that the Simba Earth APEX mattress stands out in a league of its own, as it’s the first zero-waste mattress to feature luxurious layers like organic silk, mohair, and cashmere.
Many of the viral internet-led mattress companies offer a luxury version of products, and many at a more affordable price, but the caveat is that you will lose some of the materials and components that make the APEX so special.
Comparable natural mattresses include the Naturalmat Sumptuous Mattress, the JAY-BE Natural All Seasons Hybrid from John Lewis, and the Country Living Dallington Pocket Sprung mattress from Dreams.
Simba Earth APEX review: final verdict
Simba calls the Earth APEX “celestial” and, after a year on it, I’m inclined to agree.
It’s a plush-but-supportive, medium-firm upgrade that nails pressure relief, keeps hot sleepers comfortably cool, and barely flinches when your partner gets up at 3am.
The natural luxe layers (cashmere, mohair, organic silk) feel every bit as premium as the price suggests, while the 30cm depth and eight handles keep it practical.
It’s not perfect — there’s a brief new-mattress smell, you’ll need deep sheets, and rotation is a faff at first — but the sleep quality is standout.
If you can stretch to it, this is a meaningful upgrade with sustainability credentials to match.
The 200-night trial, 10-year guarantee and 0% finance ease the sting, and there are frequent sales if you want to wait for a deal.
