Starbucks makes big change to iconic Autumn drink as it returns to stores – and customers will be furious

STARBUCKS has made a huge change to an iconic Autumn drink as it makes its return to stores today.

The pumpkin spice latte is once again making a return to menus.

The iconic drink has made its return to UK coffee shops

Only Starbucks Rewards members will be able to get their hands on the drink today. It will be available for all customers from September 4.

But coffee fans can expect to fork out an extra 25p this year for the winter squash themed drink.

Starbucks is charging £4.90 for the smallest size of the drink, up from £4.65 last year.

And it’s not the first year the chain has raised the cost of the beloved hot drink.

Last year, the drink was also hiked in cost by 45p. In 2022, prices for the drink started at £3.65.

The beverage, which has become synonymous with the start of the cooler autumn period, features espresso combined with pumpkin spice flavour sauce and steamed milk.

It is then topped with whipped cream and a spice blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves.

To get your hands on the drink today you will need to be signed up for Starbucks Rewards.

This is a membership programme which lets customers earn points when they spend at a cafe.

These points can then be turned into Starbucks freebies, such as free coffee or food.

It also gives you access to seasonal drinks before they arrive on the menu, like the pumpkin spice latte.

5 things you didn’t know about Starbucks

The name was inspired by a book

Co-founders Gordon Bowker, Jerry Baldwin, and Zev Siegl opened the first Starbucks in Seattle on March 30, 1971. The name was inspired by author Herman Melville’s famous novel, Moby-Dick – Starbuck was the name of the first mate on the ship, the Pequod.

It has its own coffee farm

Purchased in 2013, Hacienda Alsacia is a 240-hectare coffee farm located in Costa Rica. Customers can’t visit, but they can take a virtual tour.

Different apron colours

Did you ever notice some of the Starbucks staff wearing different colour aprons? Green, Black, Red and there’s also a few special editions.

Before there were Sharpie pens

Starbucks is known for writing your name on your drink cup, but before this idea came to fruition, the position of a cup on the bar would tell the barista how to make the beverage. Upside down for decaf!

Millions of fans, millions of drinks

US Starbucks stores will sell around 5 million drinks daily in 2024, and the top-selling of which is currently Caramel Macchiato.
