Strictly’s Nadiya feared being ‘paralysed’ after horror fall at rehearsals for BBC show

AFTER a horror fall led to a terrifying hospital dash for Nadiya Bychkova last month, the Strictly Come Dancing star has opened up about the incident for the first time.

The 36-year-old has revealed she thought she’d been left paralysed after falling while rehearsing for a group dance.

She told the Mirror: “It was a really scary moment. I was up on a chair and table in heels rehearsing for a group dance and the next thing I knew, I was on my back in pain and not really sure what was going on.

“There are so many things that go through your head. I was incredibly worried because I couldn’t feel my left leg and I was unable to move.”

After an ambulance was called, paramedics rushed onto set and put her onto a stretcher and strapped her head as they rushed her to hospital.

The BBC One star continued: “I was strapped to a trolley for hours and told not to move while we waited for a scan.

“My head was held with straps and I could only look directly up. That’s when you worry because you have no idea how bad it is.

“I was thinking it might be the end of my series or even my dancing career. I had time to think about everything and there were a lot of tears.”

Nadiya, who recently showed off her stunning figure, went on to reveal that doctors told her that thankfully, there was no permanent damage and it was “the biggest relief of my life.”

The dancer had alerted her fans to the accident at the time as she shared a photo of herself on a hospital bed on Instagram.

She penned: “Well… where do I start? What a 24 hours! Thank you so much for all the messages, love and support. I just wanted you to know that I am ok.

“I had a fall in training yesterday and landed on my back. I was really worried for a while and I was so thankful to the Strictly family and medical team who really looked after me.”

She praised the “kind and caring” hospital staff, before revealing the smile on her face in the picture didn’t reflect the emotions she’d experienced in the hours prior.

“I’m smiling in the picture but it was really scary and there were a few tears as I had to lie still for hours but I was given the all-clear after an x-ray and allowed to go home,” she wrote.

“I’ve got some physio today but I will be back on that dance floor soon and I’ll be ready to shine and sparkle in the new series of the biggest show on TV. I can’t wait for you to see it. Keep dancing!”

A few days later, Nadiya took to her Instagram stories to issue a health update as she thanked her fans for all of the support and well-wishes.

The Ukranian-native joined Strictly in 2017 for the fifteenth series and was paired with EastEnders star Davood Ghadami, with the pair finishing their run in sixth place.

Since then, she’s been paired with famous faces including Blue singer Lee Ryan, ex-footballer David James and presenter Dan Walker. She’s yet to make it to the final or win the show.

The professional will be back on-screens this month when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 20 September with a brand new cast of celebrities hoping to take home the coveted Glitterball trophy.
