The tiny Cornish village that a Hollywood A-lister once called home – next to UK’s best beaches and pubs

TUCKED away in West Cornwall is the tiny village of Angarrack which Hollywood star Kate Winslet once called home.

Angarrack is a must-visit with an award-winning pub, one of UK’s best beaches and it’s just up the road from plenty of coastal holiday parks.

Kate Winslet, star of Titanic, Eternal Sunshine and The Holiday, lived in Angarrack between 1998 and 2001.

Now, her former Japanese-style home called Pole House, is back on the market.

Angarrack itself has around 300 residents and just one pub called the Angarrack Inn.

It serves traditional pub grub and hosts special evenings like quiz nights, and seasonal parties at Halloween and Christmas.

Back in 2010 the pub won Best Country Pub of the Year, it’s received rave reviews and won a Travellers’ Choice award in 2024.

One visitor described it as a “hidden gem” and another wrote they had the “best pub meal in this part of Cornwall”.

The village is also just 2.5 miles from one of the best beaches in the UK.

Last year, The Towans in Hayle was announced as the winner of Times’ Best 50 beaches in the UK.

The publication analysed 543 beaches with a number of criteria, including car parking, loos, cafes, dog-friendliness and water quality.

There are four holiday parks that look over The Towans
Haven

Speaking of Towans, they said: “The 1,700-acre expanse is an unspoilt, undeveloped and largely unknown stretch of sand, rock, cliff and dune across the bay from the overcrowded St Ives.

“There are fantastic sunsets, water sports equipment rental and two excellent cafés (Cove Café and the Jam Pot Café).”

And added that the sunsets were “phenomenal”.

Overlooking Towans is plenty of holiday parks too like Haven Riviere Sands Holiday Park at the south end of the beach.

It has everything families need for a fun family holiday from indoor and outdoor pools to crazy golf, go-karting and the opportunity to learn how to surf.

For something fancier, there is the Three Mile Beach resort at the north end with luxury beach houses and shacks.

Also overlooking the beach is the family-run Beachside Holiday Park.

It has holiday chalets, seafront lodges, serviced pitches and touring and camping pitches.

Further along is Away Resorts St Ives Bay Beach Resort which has private access down to the beach – midweek breaks across four nights start at £268.

For more on Cornish holiday parks, one Sun Writer visited the one named the best in the country with beach-view lodges and camping from £33 a night.

Plus, the Cornish beach with whiter sand than Australia that’s right next to a top-rated campsite.
