TREASURY bosses have blown thousands of pounds on jollies since Labour came to power.

Their spending includes more than £4,500 at two posh London restaurants and £14,000 at two hotels.

The payments were all made on Labour credit cards since Rachel Reeves became Chancellor

Other expenditure includes more than £6,400 at a Sony retailer in Carlisle, Cumbria, buying unspecified electrical equipment.

The payments were all made on Government credit cards used by officials working for the Treasury between July 2024, when Rachel Reeves became Chancellor, and March this year.

Such information is usually published each month or quarterly but, having released nothing since coming to power, the Treasury has released nine months of spending in one go.

Other spending includes £2,295 on training and development with the Royal National Theatre and further training at a cost of £2,352 with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

There is also a £6,120 spend with Genius Within, a company that specialises in neurodiversity awareness training.

The details have been revealed after a rocky year for Ms Reeves in which she has been pilloried for raising employers’ national Insurance contributions, hitting farmers with inheritance tax and putting VAT charges on private schools.

Experts fear more taxes will have to rise so the Treasury can fill a £50billion gap.

Treasury sources said the credit card spending represented “acceptable usage in line with cross-government policy” but would not comment on specific expenditure.
