And he said they would let the UK embrace the “technological revolution” or we risk being “behind the curve”.

The Cabinet Office minister told The Times: “If you go for a job it’s perfectly reasonable you’ve got to prove who you say you are.”

Labour MP Jo White also called for ID cards.

She said: “Not only will it help deal with fraud but it will be a recognition of British citizenship.”

Earlier this year The Sun on Sunday revealed ministers are working on plans to introduce digital ID cards for migrants.

The digital document would be uploaded to their mobile phone.

There are growing calls for the policy after it was revealed that small boat migrants are brazenly breaking the law by working as Deliveroo and Just Eat delivery riders.

Earlier this month we revealed how the first migrant to be convicted of illegally working for Deliveroo since The Sun’s probe was fined just £26 after claiming to be in debt.

Abdullah Merez, 23, admitted working when disqualified by immigration status.

At least three others have been charged but failed to appear since we exposed the racket at multiple migrant hotels.
