IT has been 12 years since TV viewers were first introduced to life at Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
In 2013, the second series of Channel 4‘s Educating… series captured the attention and hearts of the nation with its debut in Yorkshire.

Life at the once-struggling Yorkshire school was laid bare with stories of love, heartbreak and success at the school played out for the nation to see.
It introduced the nation to a wide variety of individuals – from controversial students to life-changing teachers.
Now, as Channel 4 prepares to return to the school for its first visit in 12 years – The Sun has taken a look back at some of the most memorable stars of the show and where are they now and those whose lives struggled in the aftermath of TV fame.
Neil Giffin
Neil Giffin was banned from teaching shortly after appearing on the show[/caption]
Neil Giffin worked as a teacher at the school in his role as Head of Humanities whilst the programme was being filmed.
However, just months after it was first broadcast, he was soon suspended, before he resigned, after he was accused of having sex with ex-pupils from his former school.
He was subsequently banned from teaching when he admitting to sexual relationships with two former pupils of his previous school, Bishop Heber High School in Malpas, Cheshire, between 2007 and 2008.
At a panel hearing, it was disclosed that he had made online contact with former pupils via Facebook and used fake names as opposed to his own.
He then began a relationship with a former pupile after she had turned 18 and the conclusion of her Year 13 Summer Ball.
Neil revealed their relationship had lasted “about six months”.
He also admitted to having sex with another pupil however the panel concluded the relationship was not inappropriate given there was no evidence that she was a student whilst Neil taught there.
Tom Foster
Tom was the class clown on the show[/caption]
He has since held down a wide-range of roles[/caption]
Tom became known as the class clown on the show with the Year 10 pupil always doing what he could to make his classmates laugh.
However, his short fuse and challenging behaviour saw discussions of him being placed into a pupil referreral unit throughout his time on the series.
But Tom insists he is happy with how he came across on the show and has revealed he has held down a variety of manual-labour job roles since.
Speaking to YorkshireLive in 2020, the now 27-year-old said: “Since school I haven’t done much really, just college for two years then work.
“I’ve mainly worked in a warehouse but I’ve done a bit of everything – engineering, painting – you name it.
“I’m 100% happy with how the show portrayed me. That’s exactly who I am – loud, outgoing and always trying to make people laugh.”
Michael Steer
Mr Steer was the show’s maths teacher[/caption]
He recently revealed his wife had been ill[/caption]
Michael Steer was well-loved among fans as the hard-working and dedicated Maths teacher at Thornhill.
He joined the school having quit a career in finance.
His time on the show was dominated with helping a number of Year 11 girls who struggled with Maths get a C grade in their GCSE’s.
He soon fell ill after devoting so much time to working with the pupils but his hard work paid off with many of them passing.
However, show star Sheridan narrowly missed out, however later passed after having additional extra tutoring with Mr Steer after leaving school.
Now, he has bagged himself the job of Assistant Headteacher at North Huddersfield Trust School.
In some tragic personal news, Micheal revealed on Twitter earlier this year that his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2023.
He has taken on the Northumberland Mighty Hike in order to raise chairty funds following his wife’s battle.
The couple have been living life to the full and attended two live concerts in one week earlier this year.
Musharaf Ashgar
Musharaf was the breakout star of the Channel 4 show[/caption]
He now works as a journalist, public speaker and media personality[/caption]
Arguably the show’s most well-known star, Musharaf, better known as Mushy, became a fuly-fledged celebrity after the show, landing an agent and plenty of opportunities in the media.
He has worked as a public speaker, an award-winning journalist, educator and TV personality in the 12 years since shooting to fame.
Mushy shot to fame when he stepped up in front of his classmates to overcome his stammer and deliver an assembly speech.
This became achievable when Mr Burton discovered after plenty of time working with Musharaf that he found it easier to speak whilst listening to music.
He went on to attend university before graduating in 2021.
He wrote next to his snap: “From sitting in the classroom and contemplating if life would ever accept me for having a stammer, to going to university and graduating.
“I can’t sum up in words how proud I am and how much my teachers’ changed my life.
“You can truly achieve anything you put your mind to!”
As well as graduating from uni, Mushy works as a public speaker and journalist.
He also has more than 12,000 subscribers on Youtube, where he regularly posts videos about living with a stammer.
His story was even developed into a West End play.
Kamrrem Harris
Kamrrem was just 13 on the show[/caption]
He was jailed in 2018[/caption]
In 2018, former show star Kamrrem, who was aged just 13 at the time of filming, was jailed following a pub fight in which a man was run over by a car in a cowardly hit and run attack.
Aged 18, he was sentenced to 27 months after breaking a man’s jaw in 2017 in the Scarborough Pub in Dewsbury, West Yorks.
Jonathan Binns, 32, was deliberately knocked down by a car when he came out of the pub following the brawl.
Kamrrem’s brother Kallum Harris, 20, has been jailed for being the “driving force” behind the “cowardly” attack which led to the death of dad Jonathan.
The victim suffered “unsurvivable” multiple injuries in the “horrific and shocking event” which was witnessed by several bystanders.
Jonathan’s dad David described in court how he knelt by his son’s side and told him to “hang in there”.
Kamrrem, of Thornhill, was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm, violent disorder and possessing an offensive weapon and was jailed for 27 months in a young offenders institution.
Bailey Hill
Bailey Hill became known for her eyebrows[/caption]
She now keeps things glam on Instagram[/caption]
Iconic Bailey made global headlines when she went viral during her time on the show thanks to her rather peculiar eyebrows.
The Year 10 pupil stunned the nation when she opted to shave off all of her eyebrows and draw them back on with thick pencil each day.
It led her to be dubbed as having ‘the most famous eyebrows in Britain’.
These days, Bailey’s interest in beauty remains as she runs her own hairdressing brand.
She posts photo’s of hair transformations on Instagram as well as a slew of glam shots of her enjoying nights out.
She also appears to have found love by giving a shoutout to her partner on her Instagram bio as well as sharing a loved-up snap.
