The 12-part series matches 12 singles together and then casts them away to an island where each couple stays on their own private beach.

Episode one previewed on Wednesday, September 4 and began with a speed dating event.

Following a series of five minute dates, the singles are coupled up by professional matchmakers.

The newly formed couples then attend an imitation wedding ceremony and are then castaway to live on the island.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC said: “We are thrilled to be bringing this dating reality format to the BBC.

“This unique new dating series will see couples who have previously been unlucky in love being paired up and sent straight on their honeymoon with no phone, no apps and no contact with the outside world – let’s see if they can make it work on their desert island and find love.”

Filming for the series takes place in the Philippines.

The couples stay on the island for three weeks in a basic beach hut with no electricity.

There is just one double bed, a row of tinned food and a grim shower and loo.

To add excitement, “mystery crates” containing items and challenges will arrive in later episodes to test the couples’ relationships.
